For Individuals

How Individuals Can Get Involved

Everyone can benefit from EngAging Illinois. That means everyone has a part to play in turning this plan into real change.

All of us can:

  • Speak up for age-friendly policies at work, in our communities, and with state leaders.

  • Stand up to unfair or negative ideas about aging.

  • Support caregivers—both paid and unpaid—who help others every day.

  • Connect with the local Area Agencies on Aging to join community programs.

  • Get involved with EngAging Illinois, become an Ambassador, follow progress, and help promote the work.

Older adults can take the lead by speaking up for these priorities with leaders at all levels of government. They can join Action Groups and keep sharing their stories, ideas, skills, and leadership to make Illinois a better place for people of all ages—now and in the future.

Caregivers can access the services and respite essential to maintaining their own health and well-being. This helps them continue supporting their friends, families, and clients while also taking care of themselves.

For information on how you can help implement EngAging Illinois, check out the Community Roadmap.

Become an Ambassador!

EngAging Illinois Ambassadors are Illinois residents committed to raising awareness about the multisector plan for aging and age-friendly initiatives through their own networks and social media. Ambassadors complete a brief orientation to the goals and activities of the initiative and given materials to help promote it (e.g., informational handouts/postcard, social media content).
